Your Step-by-Step Path to Paraguay Residency
From document preparation at home to receiving your cedula in hand. We guide you through every stage of the process.
Prepare at Home
Before you fly to Paraguay, you need to gather and prepare a set of documents in your home country. This is the most important phase because incorrect or incomplete documents will delay your application. We review everything before you book your flight.
Gather your documents
Birth certificate, criminal background check from your country of residence (issued within the last 6 months), and a valid passport with at least 1 year remaining.
Get apostilles
Every document must be apostilled in the country where it was issued, under the Hague Apostille Convention. We tell you exactly where to go and what to request.
Send us copies for review
We check every document before you travel. If anything is wrong or missing, we catch it now, not at the immigration office in Asuncion.
Book your trip
Once documents are approved, book your flight to Asuncion. We recommend planning for 5 to 7 business days on the ground.
Documents You Need
- Valid passport (1+ year validity)
- Birth certificate (apostilled)
- Criminal background check (apostilled, max 6 months old)
- Marriage certificate if applicable (apostilled)
- Passport-sized photos (4x4cm, white background)
All documents will be translated by certified translators in Paraguay. Do not translate them at home.
5 Days in Asuncion
Arrival and Preparation
We meet you in Asuncion. Document translations are submitted to certified court translators. Certified photocopies and notarizations are arranged. You settle in and we brief you on the schedule for the week.
Background Checks
We accompany you to the Paraguayan police department for your local criminal background certificate. Then to INTERPOL for your international background verification. Both are completed the same day.
Immigration Submission
Your complete file is submitted at the Direccion Nacional de Migraciones (National Immigration Office). Biometric data is collected. This is the official start of your residency application.
Additional Services
If you have the Complete or Vanguard package, this day is used for Tax ID (RUC) registration, driver’s license conversion, and bank account opening. Essentials clients have a free day to explore Asuncion.
Final Verification and Departure
We verify your file has been accepted and confirm the processing timeline. You receive a summary of next steps and expected dates. You are free to fly home.
Most clients spend 5 business days in Asuncion. Some processes can be completed faster depending on your nationality and document readiness. We will advise you on the optimal schedule during your consultation.
Processing and Delivery
After your documents are submitted, the Paraguayan immigration authorities process your application. This typically takes 60 to 90 days. During this period, we monitor your file and send you weekly updates.
Processing period (60 to 90 days)
Your application moves through the immigration system. Processing times vary by nationality and current volume at the immigration office.
Weekly status updates
We check on your file regularly and send you updates every week. You always know exactly where things stand.
Residency card issued
Once approved, your temporary residency card (carnet de radicacion) is printed. This is your official proof of legal residency in Paraguay.
Cedula application
With your residency card in hand, we apply for your cedula (national ID card). This can be done during the same trip if timing allows, or on a brief return visit.
Cedula issued
Your cedula is typically ready within 20 to 30 days after application. We can arrange DHL delivery or hold it for pickup.
